Math Week 7: May 19-22

Math:  Data Management Week 7 May 19-22

How To Create A Pictograph | Elementary Math - YouTube   concrete graph, pictogram, pictograph ~ A Maths Dictionary for ...

A Pictograph is a fun graph that you can use pictures to represent your data.  Each picture can represent more than one.  You should have a key that shows this info.  You can get creative with your pictographs.

Part A

Using this data create your own pictograph.  We asked 22 people in the class what their favourite breakfast cereal was.  Here is the data below.  Create a pictograph with a key that shows what each picture is worth.  Use a title as well.

Fruit Loops - 4 students
Count Chocula - 6 students
Trix- 2 students
Honey Nut Cheerios- 1 student
Captain Crunch- 7 students
Frosted Flakes- 2 Students.

Part B

Conducting a Survey.  When you ask a question to find something out you are conducting a survey.  For example, you could ask what everyone in the class (22) was their favourite after school activity?  You would have to have 5-6 options.  You have to come up with your own survey question and answers.  And create a graph of your choice.

Here is an example of a survey question and data.

What is your favourite after school activity?

1. Watching tv 6
2. Playing video games 9
3.  Playing outside with friends 2
4.  Having a snack 1
5.  Playing a sport 3
6. Other choice 1

Then you can choose a pictograph, line or bar graph to show your data.  What did you learn from conducting your survey and graph? You can ask people in your family or make up a school survey with example answers.
